Why Granite Mill?
Since we understand your need to come in on time and budget, Granite Mill is the ideal solution for contractors. We are here to help with the initial design to ensure the perfect fit. We can work directly with you or your clients to pick the right color stone. Once your needs are identified, the process begins at the quarry picking the ideal granite for your project. The slab moves on to the factory where it’s cut to your dimensions and gets the edging of your choice at no additional charge. We also cut out for sinks and reinforce the cut out edges with steel all thread bars to maximize the strength and longevity of the countertop. The stone then gets polished and finished to ensure the durability you demand. When everything is perfect, we ship your countertops to our warehouse for pick up or to any of our Freight Service Centers in the country for larger orders.
The countertops we offer are 1¼" thick for maximum strength and ease of installation since no underlayment is required. This also means there is no seam on the edges typically found on thinner slabs for a thicker profile appearance. We provide you the choice of full service installation or installing it yourself. No matter your choice, we are here for you every step of the way. You’ll be surprised to learn that with all we do for you we can still offer prices lower than the national chains and other granite suppliers. This means either a lower bid and thus more business, or a higher profit margin on each job you do. In addition to our low prices, we offer bulk pricing for larger orders. Please see the Pricing page for details about this.
Custom Fabricated Countertops:
The main product that we sell is 1 1/4 inch (3cm) custom fabricated countertops. By custom fabricated we mean that we take the drawings containing the countertop dimensions that you need and the edge styles that you want and then we fabricate them that way out of a slab of granite. This is in contrast to blank programs where your countertops are pieced together by cutting pre-fabricated 8 foot by 2 foot granite pieces. These programs end up with many more seams in the countertops and in general do not look as good as custom fabricated countertops which have very few seams.
Why Buy from Us?
*
Low prices.
*
Flat rate and easy to understand pricing: Most others will advertize some price per square foot, but when you read the fine print, you realize that their price is only for the cheapest kind of granite and/or that it is for premade blanks. If you want anything nicer (like the colors or custom fabrication we offer) then you will pay much higher prices per square foot. We calculate the square footage of your countertops and backsplashes, then we add 5% for the falloff material and multiply that by the price per square foot. It is that simple.
*
Cutouts and edges included in the flat rate pricing: Our per square foot price includes all cutouts for sinks and all edge profiles. Many other sellers charge extra for the nicer edge types and for cutouts. There is one exception in the case where a custom sink shape is used and we have to make a sink template for it. Please read the Pricing Page for more details on this.
*
Countertop thickness: Many others sell 3/4 inch countertops with thicker strips of granite attached to the edges for the edge profile. We sell 1 1/4 (3cm) inch thick countertops. These typically do not require any underlayment. They can be put right on top of the cabinet boxes. This saves time, makes the installation easier, and also provides stronger countertops.
*
Steel reinforced sink edges: We reinforce the thin strips of stone around the sinks with steel allthread bars. This not only strengthens the counter for shipping but also for the lifetime of the counters! So, the net effect is less work during installation and stronger counters after installation! The steel bars are inset in the granite (flush with the underside of the countertop), so they will not cause any hassle during installation.
*
Versatility: Because everything that we produce is custom fabricated, we produce more than countertops. We also fabricate window sills and fireplace surrounds.
Countertop Pricing:
Compared to most of our competitors, our pricing is very simple. Most fabricators advertize a low price per square foot. However, when you read the fine print, you find out that there are extra charges for sink cutouts, for edging and for backsplash. Our underlying philosopy is that we charge per square foot. Because of this flat rate pricing structure, our customers can easily estimate the price for their countertops. You only need the stone type that you want and the square footage in order to calculate the price of your countertops. We believe that you will find our rates straight forward and easy to understand.
Self Installation:
Most of our customers chose to do the installation on their own. We do not give any specific guidance about self installation. This is the responsibility of the contractor or home-owner who is installing the product. Below is list of the major parts of the the installation.
Placing Countertops on Cabinets:
We have found that because the material is 1 1/4 inch thick, no plywood or other underlayment is usually necessary. This makes installation very easy because it can be put directly on the cabinents. Naturally, each installer would need to make the most appropriate descision in regards to this, and to put supports where they deem that they are necessary.
